Spotlight
Spotlight on Zone Volunteers
Paul and Brenda Davis spend many late nights at the Deaf Shalom Zone office and computer lab fixing and maintaining Zone computers. With fifteen computers in the office and computer lab the Davis’s have their work cut out for them! It seems that even though the Zone recently purchased brand new computers with the help of a grant from the Patterson foundation and a donation from Christ UMC of the Deaf there is always something to fix. Paul and Brenda respond to our frantic calls of “Help! The internet is out!” with patience and kindness. Above and beyond computer maintenance, Paul and Brenda helped run Zone computer classes and monitored the lab for countless hours on Sunday afternoons. This is a service of volunteerism that takes a special skill and we are truly blessed that the Davis’s are willing to share their time and talents with us! Thank you Paul and Brenda!
Calling all Volunteers!
Are you interested in volunteering for the Deaf Shalom Zone, Inc? Can you donate one Sunday a month? The Zone needs you! Here are the major categories of volunteerism that we are looking to fill:
Volunteer Case Manager (VCM): Volunteer Case Managers are needed for a few hours each month. VCMs will help out one Sunday a month in the Deaf Shalom Zone office after church. VCMs will help the Zone handle basic Case Management cases. For example: VCMs could interpret a Zone client’s mail from English to ASL or VCMs could help a Zone client set up a Doctor appointment and ensure an interpreter will be present.
Transportation Volunteer (TV): Transportation Volunteers will help Zone clients arrive safely at their appointments. Many of the Deaf Shalom Zone, Inc. clients need transportation assistance. TVs will volunteer however many hours a month they have available to take Zone clients to their appointments.
Food Pantry Volunteer (FPV): Food Pantry Volunteers will monitor the food distribution processes at the Deaf Shalom Zone food pantry. FPVs will hand out food to Zone clients and track food pantry statistics. FPVs will volunteer during the hours of 10am-12pm and 1pm-3pm one Sunday a month. Statistic tracking is extreme
Computer Lab Volunteer (CLV): Computer Lab Volunteers will monitor the Deaf Shalom Zone computer lab. The Zone lab is open on Sundays to offer clients the opportunity to surf the web, search for jobs, fill out applications, create resumes, etc. CLVs will volunteer one Sunday a month during lab hours 10am-12pm and 1pm-3pm.
