Hands On’s mission is to connect
youth and adults to the mission of the Deaf Shalom Zone through a week long service and immersion opportunity that involves
American Sign Language classes, educational programs, home improvement and meaningful relationships with Deaf and Deaf-Blind
individuals.
Hands On began in 2007 with 24 participants and continued in 2008 with
30 participants. Participants from Hands On spend the week learning American Sign Language, engaging in evening Deaf and Deaf-Blind
educational programs, and renovating Deaf and Deaf-Blind individual's homes during the day. The program spreads
Deaf and Deaf-Blind ministry awareness and helps participants better understand the serious work of the Deaf Shalom Zone and
its mission.
